Try Greek Villas for your next holiday   by Thom Sanders

A few of my close friends are going on holiday to villas in Spain this year and have been raving about how brilliant they’ll be for months now. I’ve never been on a holiday like that before and their excitement made me wonder what was so special about it, so I looked a bit more into villa holidays and was pleasantly surprised to say the least.

My friends chose Spain as their destination, but I’ve fancied Greece for a while now so I looked into that. The idea of a beautiful white-washed village like you see in photographs is really appealing to me, and finding a villa that fitted that description was so easy. Whether you want to stay on the mainland or on one of Greece’s famous islands there are villas available.

Crete really caught my eye. It’s the largest and most populous Greek island so I thought there would be plenty to see and do; I love exploring new areas and finding out about local culture. I discovered that Crete has a wide variety of snow-capped mountains, valleys and gorges which are beautiful to see from up close and afar. In terms of culture Crete can provide an interesting view of Mediterranean life, particularly men’s fashion as many still wear traditional dress of breeches, boots ands a headdress. The island is also famed for its role in Greek Mythology; Mount Ida was supposedly the birthplace of Zeus, and the islets of Lefkai were apparently the result of a music competition between the Sirens and the Muses.

So staying at a villa in Greece was definitely going to be my choice as the beautiful scenery and fascinating culture were really appealing, as well as the famous laidback Mediterranean style that just oozes the holiday vibe. But what kind of villa would I want for the best possible holiday for me? I’ll tell you now it wasn’t hard to find!

My first choice would have been the villa that comes with its own private infinity pool, library with grand piano, tennis courts, maid and cook but then my friends and I wouldn’t want to leave the place! So after a little more searching I found a group of villas that suited me perfectly; a villa with a private pool is all I need, a really private place to come back to and relax with friends after a hard day’s exploring. With this as my only requirement it would be hard not to find the perfect villa.

After all this research I wonder why I’ve never been on a holiday like this before, and I would thoroughly recommend a villa holiday in Greece to absolutely anybody.
